Former Leinster boss Matt O'Connor has an interesting new job

But it’s not the one he wanted.

FORMER LEINSTER COACH Matt O’Connor has landed a new job with the Queensland Reds.

However, while O’Connor had applied of the head coach position, he has been given the role of ‘Attack Coach’ with the Australian outfit on a three-year deal instead.

Despite a disastrous 2015 Super Rugby season that saw the Reds pick up just 22 points from 16 games, Richard Graham keeps his role as head coach.

O’Connor brings almost 20 years of experience to his new role but it is something of a demotion having worked as both head coach of Leicester in the English Premiership for four seasons before and and Leinster for two.

“It’s exciting to join an organisation with such great Rugby pedigree, history and tradition,” O’Connor said.

“My family has been overseas for 13 of the last 17 years, so it’s huge to be able to return to Australia and we’re looking forward to making the move to Queensland to join the Reds.”
